Yoga at every damn age!
I’m sixty-six, and I have been doing yoga since childhood. When I was five years of age, I began practicing yoga with my father using books he borrowed from a library. Although he was a good judo practitioner, I was much more flexible as a five-year-old. His praises for my flexibility stuck and I began to view myself as a gifted individual, someone who could do yoga well. When I was in high school, I took part in a class. In every class, I tried to out-flex my teacher. While I made some gains in stretching, I didn’t have a deep appreciation for yoga’s spiritual side for many years. Ironically, yoga then fed my ego rather than my soul.
Over the years, I have had many different passions in exercise: running, horse-riding and sailing, as well as ice-skating, ice-running, rock climbing, hiking and sailboarding. Some stuck for many years – I had horses and this was a…
