Starship is the largest rocket ever built by Elon Musk and SpaceX. It will be launched today. SpaceX’s powerful rocket will launch its first test flight from their base in South Texas, near Boca Chica Village.
Musk’s low expectations are based on his statement that the “attempt” is unlikely to be successful. It is likely that failure will be due to technical reasons. Starship is expected to attempt to fly around Earth, and then land on water near Gulf of Mexico.
Rocket launch is scheduled for 9:20 am. ET. SpaceX’s launch schedule will be changing frequently. In the meantime, two Starship engineers are live-streaming the video on YouTube and explaining their mission.
UPDATE: Apr. 17 2023, 2.31 pm EDT The launch has been officially cancelled due to a problem with pressurization. Musk tweeted an update with the following: “Learned a great deal today, now we are offloading propellant and retrying within a few days.” It’s not clear when the next test will be.
