Someone sedate us! Grey’s Anatomy alum Sandra Oh recently graced the 74th annual Primetime Emmy Awards and though the star-studded TV event delivered a lot of unforgettable bits, one off-screen moment involving the actress stole the show.
Nominated for her riveting performance in Killing Eve, Sandra attended this year’s Emmys and met many familiar ensembles at the awards ceremony, including the Squid Game crew and Saturday Night Live cast. The former ABC actress posted a carousel of selfies documenting the surprise crossovers, but it was her first photo that caught people’s attention.
Sandra took a photo of herself leaning in between Bridgerton showrunner Shonda Rhimes and Chandra Wilson, or Doctor Bailey as many know her. The tight-knit trio looked cheerful as they smiled for the camera together. She later posted the reunion to Instagram, starting the caption off with: “❤️ @shondarhimes and Chandra Wilson …”
Grey’s Anatomy fans couldn’t help but rejoice at the heartwarming surprise and shared their glee in her Instagram comments section. “Dr. Yang and Dr. Bailey!! My hearttttt!!!” one person wrote. “The reunion we NEEDED!!!” another user said. “COME BACK TO GREY’S!!!!!!!” someone else replied.
It’s been a minute since folks have seen the Turning Red star play the cutthroat doctor in the popular medical drama, but she’s certainly kept busy with other acting gigs. From Umma to The Chair, Sandra’s had a successful run since portraying Dr. Cristina Yang, earning several Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
Though, it hasn’t been a journey that’s come lightly. She recently opened up about her time on Grey’s Anatomy during Variety‘s Actors on Actors series. Chatting with Squid Game‘s Jung Ho-yeon, the two discussed the challenge of balancing mental health.
“My life changed very much,” Sandra admitted to the outlet about her quick rise to fame following her role on network television. “And it’s tricky to imagine, because this is almost 20 years ago, so the context is very different, but the stress is the same — or the confusion is the same.”
Despite the challenges, we’re glad she’s stuck around Hollywood to continue creating powerful work. Plus, there’s nothing like enjoying a heartwarming reunion with former cast members.
