Joplin is famous for many things, such as its restaurants. In history, the city is best known for being where Bonnie and Clyde hid out in a garage of a home, resulting in a shootout that killed two police officers. Sadly, in more recent times, the EF5 Tornado that killed over 150 people and injured thousands more occurred there.

It is also a great stop for anyone who loves the Mother Road. Joplin, because of its central location, has made a concerted effort to create a city that is worth visiting. It offers interesting restaurants, as well as being close to some historic sites.

You may want to take a look at these places if you are planning a trip in that direction. Here are some of the most notable sights, followed by food:

Grand Falls
It’s a small, but pretty, waterfall just outside of Joplin. It’s a great place for pictures or a picnic.

George Washington Carver Park
You will learn more about the agricultural scientist and innovator if you visit this site. It’s interesting to walk through the small museum and do the short hike to see the stream, and it’s all free.
