JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The recent 2023 Connected Retail Experience Study, conducted by Incisiv in collaboration with Verizon Business, shows that retailers are prioritizing investments in technologies that improve operational efficiency to reduce costs and increase profitability.

In the face of uncertainty in supply chains, real-time inventory management is now a top priority. Artificial intelligence (AI), which can be used to improve operations, will see a rise in adoption by specialty and department stores rather than general merchandise and grocery stores. According to the study:

  • Projections show that AI will increase 9x in 2025 to help improve operations.
  • The deployment of mobile point of sale (POS), curbside pickup sensors and mobile point of sale (POS), will be significantly increased across all retailers, especially specialty and departmental stores.
  • Although robotics are still relatively rare in associate tasks, this trend will continue over the next few decades, especially among general merchandise and grocery retailers.
