During the pandemic, many private hospitals were severely underutilized in the UK.

Private hospitals were paid around £2bn to help the NHS during the first year of the covid pandemic. However, The BMJ found that only 30 private

hospitals were used for covid-19 treatment in April 2020, the peak of the pandemic.
